Daniel at the Siege of Boston 1776

Personal Thoughts…
I picked this one up randomly from our church library and am really glad I did. Finding books for my son can be a challenge as he is not a bookworm like my daughter. I think he will enjoy this book as I read it aloud to him this coming school year {5th grade}.
This book is historical fiction centering around a particular time during the Revolutionary War. It follows the fictional character, Daniel, who is 12.
Obviously a book centered around a war has some pretty intense subject matter and I will be reading this one aloud to my 10 year old so we can discuss these things together. There were only a couple of scenes that I can remember {one where Daniel witnesses a hanging} that would be a bit too intense and descriptive for some kids. Overall the topic of war is handled vividly and really takes you back to what it must have felt like to be a child in Boston at this time.
Leveled Reading Systems Explained
- Interest Level: 4-8
- Grade Level Equivalent: 4.4
- Lexile Measure: 710L
Personally I say ages 10-12 for most kids and reading with a parent is recommended both so deeper war related issues can be discussed, and also for some historical references that may need to be explained to some kids.
